The islands of Corazon and Fragatas are close to the mouth of the Chone River, off the coast of the towns of Bahia de Caraquez and San Vicente. The refuge protects the remaining mangrove habitat that resides in this estuary. The area is a resting and nesting place for seabirds and shorebirds, including an important colony of frigate birds. Due to its easy access and relative proximity to the beach, it has become a favorite destination for recreational activities. The canal tour and mangrove walks will help you understand why this area is considered a refuge for many species.
