This area is close to Guayaquil and, as the name suggests, consists of a large artificial lake that is the product of a dam in the Chongón River that maintains a strip of vegetation around it. The dam was built to divert water for irrigation and human consumption for the local population of the Santa Elena Peninsula. To take advantage of the landscape created by the dam, the government then turned it into an ecological park with recreational areas. In the area you will find different types of native trees.
