This enormous national park (the largest in the country after Galapagos) is located along the banks of the rivers Napo, Yasuní, Tiputini, Nashiño, Cononaco and several basins that flow into the river Curaray. For about 300 km, it follows the Napo River from Coca – also the entrance to the park. With more than 120 islands, the Rio Napo is navigable along its entire length along the park.
The whole area is hilly with flatter areas here and there.
In addition to its enormous plant and animal richness, the area is also interesting because Kichwa and Huaorani Indians still live here.

The Ecuadorian government recently proposed to the United Nations to refrain from exploiting a billion barrels of oil waiting to be exploited underground in the park in exchange for a reduction in external debt.
Despite its vastness, the park has only 2 guards.
