Papallacta is a small village located 40 miles east of Quito, along the Interoceánica (the road between Quito and the Amazon region). It is located on the eastern flanks of the Andes, where the páramo turns into moist cloud forest.
You will find beautiful thermal baths in this region and the nearby Cayambe-Coca nature reserve offers good opportunities to get to know untouched highlands. In clear weather, the snowy peaks of the Cayambe (5 790 m) and the nearby Antisana (5 752 m) can be seen. Papallacta is an ideal place to relax.
During the day you can take walks through the partly cloud forest clad mountainous area in the area and in the evening you can enjoy the starry sky from small natural hot springs built against the mountain slope. Even when it rains or snows, it is very pleasant to relax in the warm water that flows down all along the mountain.
Some hotels have real spas with therapeutic baths, jacuzzi and massage. Everything is very hygienic and relaxing.
Because Papallacta is not far from Quito, it can be busy on weekends and holidays.
