At the foot of Chimborazo, in the Totorilla Valley at 4,000 meters above sea level, is the Chimborazo Lodge. This lodge sits on the ruins of the historic refugio Tambo, a haven for travelers since pre-Columbian times. The lodge is on the border of the Chimborazo National Park, surrounded by the original páramo where llamas and alpacas graze. It is the ideal place to enjoy nature. The lodge does not have internet access. From here you can do several hikes independently, or you can visit the Chimborazo volcano with a guide. The lodge belongs to Marco Cruz, now elderly but once Ecuador’s most famous mountaineer.
