Despite the existence of mangroves along all coastal estuaries, each area is different and has its own characteristics. The mangroves of El Morro have been heavily influenced by the salty waters of the Pacific Ocean. This reserve is located in the north of the Gulf of Guayaquil, near the island of Puna, where the channel (or current) El Morro begins. One of the main reasons for its declaration as a protected area is the existence of a large population of dolphins living in the El Morro Canal and the frigate bird colony of Manglecito Island.
